Day 8:       Clean Up Your Act!

Straighten up a space to work. If you have an office, then straighten that out.  If you don’t have a private spot in your house, create a little portable office that you can take to your favorite coffee shop or the library or even a park.  If you are going to make major changes in your life, you are going to need a clear workspace.  Your mind cannot work at its best in a cluttered, messy environment.

SPECIAL NOTE:  Please notice that I did not say clean your whole house.  Because you are going to look around and say, “This entire place is a mess.”  Even if it’s not.  Don’t get bogged down in what you should do.  We are only working on one little space.  And that is all you need to handle.  For now.

If it is going to take more than a day to straighten a space, then clear off the desktop temporarily (yes, put all the folders, papers and CRAP on the floor out of your range of vision).  You can put all the crap back on when you are done working for the day.  And, if you file away a few things each time you put the stuff back on your desk, you may find you are clearing less stuff as time passes.

What to put in your portable office.

_        Loose leaf notebook filled with paper. Or a legal pad if you are
        more comfortable with that.

_      If you have one and find it easier to work with, use a laptop.

_      Three pens.  One to use, one to lose, one to get stolen. Hey, they’re pens.

_      Highlighter.

_     Calculator.

That’s all.  Doesn’t have to be complicated.
